Fire and Evacuation Procedures

All work places must have fire and evacuation procedures. They must be clearly displayed and accessible to all employees and clients. Although they will vary in the detail of the content, which will be specific to your premises and type of business, they will all have similar information in terms of the actual procedures. Here is an example a typical evacuation procedure:

FIRE DRILL

IF YOU DISCOVER A FIRE:

Raise the alarm immediately:

Operate the nearest fire alarm.

Telephone 999 for the emergency services.

Close doors, switch of appliances and lights and close the doors on leaving the room.

Help clients and less able colleagues by the nearest marked escape route and proceed to the designated assembly point.

Do not stop to collect any personal belongings.

Evacuate the building

On hearing the alarm:

Close doors, switch of appliances and lights and close the doors on leaving the room.

Assembly points:

Everyone must remain at the assembly points until further instructions.
