Approved Companion for a Child or Vulnerable People

There will be times when you will need to deal with children or vulnerable people in specific situations. In such cases, it is important to take steps to ensure the protection of those individuals and yourself by having an approved companion present.

Try encouraging parents to take children to the toilet before a session, or asking them to remain with them during any private sessions.

At times you may need to do something of a personal nature for a child or a vulnerable person. In this situation always gain the unprecedented consent and understanding of the child or vulnerable person and their parent or guardian. Ensure there is always another team member present who is aware of what you are doing and why.

Make sure you do not take on tasks which you haven’t been trained for.
