The Nephron

There are over one million nephrons within each kidney. The nephrons are responsible for filtering the blood. It consists of a vascular part, the glomerulus, and a tubular part of narrow coiled tubules. The glomerulus is enclosed a cup like structure called the Bowman’s capsule. The nephrons filter plasma fluid, absorb glucose, amino acids, water and salts, they also secrete waste products in the form of urine.
