The Structure of the Skull
Unit: Skeletal System

The Structure of the Skull

The skull comprises two main sets of bones, the cranium and the facial bones.

The Cranium bones are composed of the Frontal, Parietals, Occipital and Temporal bones. They protect and surround the brain.

The facial bones consist of two Maxillae, forming the centre of the face, the Zygomatic bones, forming the cheekbones and the Mandible, which is the lower jaw. The Mandible is the only bone in the skull that can move.
